 The Steps

1. (Skin) Base coat the skin with Cadian Fleshtone. Paint over this with Ratskin Flesh and wash this with a 1/1 mix of Ratskin Flesh and Mournfang Brown.

2. (Clothing) For the green variant. Where the tunic and sleeves are visible; paint the tunic Castellan Green and the sleeves with Dawnstone. Paint the boots with a mix of Abaddon Black, just enough so that it is a darker grey. For the blue variant, use Altdorf Guard Blue in place of the green. Mix the base colour with a little black and use this to wash the fabric, follow this with a drybrush highlight of the the base colour mixed with white. Paint any straps and the belt with Mournfang Brown, then paint the buckles on the belts with Runefang Steel and/or Gehennas Gold.

3. (Armour) Paint any visible part of the leather to which the armour plates are attached with Rhinox Hide. Paint the armour plates either with Leadbelcher or Gehennas Gold (For the green variant I used Gehennas Gold on the warriors with shields or two-handed axes and the archers with Leadbelcher. For the blue and gave them all Gold. Do whatever.) Paint the helmet with Leadbelcher and the trim on the helmet with Gehennas Gold. For the shields, paint the face of the shield with a mix of the green, or blue, and a tiny amount of Leadbelcher. Paint the backs with Rhinox Hide, then paint the trim and spike in the centre of the shield with Runefang Steel. Follow this with a wash of Abaddon Black mixed with water. Also wash the silver armour with black and the gold armour with really dilute Rhinox Hide.

4. (Weaponry) Paint the bows and hafts of axes with Rhinox Hide and highlight with Gorthor Brown. Paint the axeheads and arrowheads with Leadbelcher and highlight with Runefang Steel. Paint the arrow feathers with Doombull Brown, drybrush with Mournfang and paint the nock points with Runefang Steel. For the swords some warriors have at their belt, paint the hilt with Rhinox Hide, the scabbard with Doombull Brown and the hilt and end of the scabbard with Runefang Steel.

5. (Hair / Finishing Touches) Paint the hair and beard (and moustaches) of your dwarves with a varying array of browns and grays. Try different mixes of Rhinox Hide, Mournfang Brown and Doombull Brown, but make sure that all the hair gets a base, a wash and a highlight. Paint the edges of the sleeves and tunic with either Runefang Steel or Gehennas Gold, I recomend gold for the Castellan Green tunics and silver for the Altdorf Guard Blue tunics. For the eyes I just used White Scar and Abaddon Black.
